Every year since 1991, 14 November is an opportunity to better know diabetes and learn to master it.
Wednesday, November 14 is World Diabetes Day. An event created in 1991 by the International Diabetes Federation and the World Health Organisation. Every year, this day aims to raise awareness of diabetes, giving its support, the means to prevent and control it.
On this occasion, the French Association of Diabetics offers on its website the list of local initiatives organized in France throughout the month of November. In addition, AFD will use the date of November 14 to submit its White Paper Diabetes and work: proposals to end discrimination parliamentarians.
347 million diabetics worldwide
In this Day, Roche Diabetes Care will launch a hotline addressing diet for people with diabetes type 1 and type 2 and their families. This hotline, consisting of five professional of dietetics, is available from Monday to Thursday and Friday at 6 March 45 0811.
Worldwide, 347 million people are infected. In France, diabetes affects three million people, or 4.4% of the population. Research multiply to facilitate the daily lives of people with diabetes and relieve maximum insulin injections.
A recent study, published in the journal Biomaterials Science, focuses on the nasal spray. She says a nasal gel insulin reduces blood sugar levels in laboratory rats for 24 hours. The liquid would turn into a sticky gel when warmed in the nose after spraying. The international team of scientists behind this work should address the testing phase on humans to measure the effectiveness of the spray. This innovation is currently at the testing stage.
