The body weight is expressed in kilograms, or stone pounds. In Europe, we use the kilogram to refer to the weight. A healthy body weight is associated with the body height, the age and lifestyle. Overweight people have an increased risk of diseases like diabetes, heart disease and some cancers. Underweight often arises as a result of a disease such as cancer or a mental disorder. It is important to have a healthy body weight. As the heaviest woman ever weighed more than 725 kilos. She died too early.

What is the body weight?

Body weight is the number of kilos which weighs a person. British and Americans give their body weight in pounds or stone. On average, considered a mature man in the year 2012 84 kilos and 70 kilos a woman. These weights are for Europe, where the average man is 1.80 meters long and 1.68 meters long the average woman. In Japan, the average body weight much lower. The height is also lower there: an average of 1.55 meters. This explains as the lower body weight.

In relation to

The body weight is normally in proportion to body length. We call this a healthy weight. Today, we can easily calculate this yourself using the BMI. A BMI between 20 and 25 can be considered as healthy. Among the 18.5 is considered to be too light. Above 25 we talk of obesity. A healthy weight is the least hand in hand with illness or premature death. Many diseases are associated with obesity. A number of diseases are caused precisely by underweight. The biggest problem we wrestle with is obesity. Obesity is considered to be prosperity disease, but is more common in families where poverty prevails. In these families, stress plays a role so that children go rather unhealthy food.

United States, land of obesity

The most heaviest people ever almost all came from the United States ie America. In 1994 died the American Carol Yager. Her highest weight was over 725 kilos. She had a BMI of 188. Carol died from the effects of her obesity, she was only 34 years old. The heaviest man ever Jon Brower Minnoch. He was also an American, weighed 635 kilos and died in 1983 at the age of 42.
In America, there are over twice as many overweight people than in Europe. This is mainly due to the fact that America is not a nanny state but a participative society. Everyone makes their own choices and is responsible for his own health. The Government therefore does not interfere with things like obesity and fight them. Information about healthy nutrition is barely present and is often not tolerated.

Light, normal and heavy built

The question is how, in principle, determined when one light, normal or was heavily built. This was done by a large group of people looking at height, body weight, existing illnesses and the age that these people deceased to compare. On the basis of these results could be judged what a healthy body weight and when someone was too heavy or too light. In earlier times, only doctors could determine whether someone had a healthy body weight. Nowadays everybody can decide this for itself by calculating the BMI and measure the circumference of the abdomen, hips, neck and legs. Especially abdominal circumference is decisive. People with a healthy body weight may as well have an increased risk of diseases, where the abdominal circumference is too large. Abdominal fat increased risk along with it.

Too light, usually a result of illness

People with low body weight, we also take it lightly. Often, this is the result of a disease. This can be a physical but also a mental illness. Anorexia nervosa is a psychological disorder known. Diseases in which a diminishing appetite symptom occurs often cause weight loss. When there is weight loss without apparent reason here for this should always be thoroughly investigated. Sometimes there is a bowel disease, tuberculosis, or in severe cases, cancer. Take weight loss we see often in times of flu and fever. An overactive thyroid gland also causes emaciation. Underweight often have osteoporosis, infertility and overall weakness as a result.

Obesity by overeating

In most cases, obesity, overweight in other words is a result of too much food. Combined with too little exercise can very quickly arise overweight. Often the thyroid gland or the total metabolic rate affects the speed at which one arrives. Children and infants who are overweight are much more likely to be overweight later. This is because young children develop more fat cells. These fat cells do not disappear, but hit at large has more fat. Obesity often leads to diabetes, hypertension, heart disease and some cancers.
