The results of the Cito Test 2009 are again known; The participating children were given Wednesday, March 4th report the pupil to take home. If we look at the scores there are no major differences with previous years. About half of all children received advice VMBO and the other half HAVO or VWO. The boys scored better on Arithmetic and Mathematics, the girls in language.

The participants

Approximately 153 thousand students of grade eight arches on 3, 4 and 5 February on the CITO test! 6200 schools were doing with it. This year was the fortieth time the test was taken.

Attainment test

A final test consists of the following components:
  • Language. words, the structure of a sentence or text, reading comprehension and the meaning of words.)
  • Arithmetic and Mathematics.
  • Study Skills.
  • Wereldorintatie. This is an optional component; approximately 85 percent of schools did participate.

The digital final test

The digital final test consists of the same components as the 'paper' final test. The figures vary, but the difficulty is the same as that of the regular final exam. The digital key is used for example when overtaking or resit test and can be taken until April 3rd. The results are therefore not included in the 'results', as presently disclosed.

The level test

The placement test is intended for students with learning disabilities at least eighteen months. Also this key is created on the computer. The difficulty of the exercises are adapted to the level of pupils with severe educational disadvantages. There did this year 2638 students participated in the proficiency test. These results were not included in the results as they are announced now.

Custom task booklets

For dyslexic students there is a spoken version 'of the final test available. As well as an enlarged version for visually impaired students, a monochrome version for color blind students, and a Braille version for blind students.

The results of the Cito Test 2009

  • The students took an average score of 535.5.
  • 50 per cent of pupils received VMBO advice, 32.5 percent HAVO advice and 18.5 percent a VWO advice. Alternatively, therefore the percentages are slightly higher.)
  • Three children, all 200 questions correctly.
  • Eight children made only one mistake.
  • The highest standard score was that this year 4467 students.
  • The boys took on average a slightly higher standard score than the girls.
  • The boys scored better on Arithmetic and Mathematics and Environmental Studies.
  • The girls scored better on language.
  • Boys and girls scored about the same on study skills.
  • The 'for real' students had on average a higher standard score.
  • The 'slow' students on average had a lower score.

Advice secondary education

The student report is used by teachers to assist in advising parents and students. Also given in the report itself is a recommendation for further education. Nowadays, more and more schools put education requirements for a certain "minimum" standard score on the final test, they want to allow a student.
